Lippard directs the university bands and teaches applied woodwind lessons. His teachers have included clarinetists Daniel Silver (Professor of Clarinet, CU), Russell Dagon (retired principal, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra), Clark Brody (retired principal, Chicago Symphony Orchestra) and Leslie Nicholas (former Professor of Clarinet, JMU).

He has performed with orchestras in Colorado, Wyoming, Virginia and Indiana and has taught music in public and private schools in the Boulder and the Indianapolis areas. His students hold chairs in youth orchestras around the nation and have been accepted in to prestigious institutions such as the University of Northern Colorado College of Performing and Visual Arts, the University of Colorado College of Music, the Peabody Institute and the Eastman School of Music.
