Alternative Teaching Certification
Texas Teachers
The Texas Teachers Alternative Certification Program
Texas Teachers is a
private program that strives for innovation and effectiveness.
We remove unnecessary obstacles and raise the quality of the training and
mentoring.
That's how Texas Teachers is able to offer an accessible route that delivers
results.
Texas Teachers backs up its commitment by voluntarily making 90% of its fees
contingent upon the new teacher's success.
Texas Teachers developed its training and support elements with tremendous input
from school districts.
By working with districts and meeting their expectations, Texas Teachers can
therefore help to increase the potential for employment and success of its
interns.
In addition, Texas Teachers offers a strong support plan during the first year
of teaching. Districts like to see this commitment to the intern's success.

Thank you for your
interest in the Panhandle Alternative Certification for Educators (PACE)
program.
PACE is an alternative teacher certification program for individuals who have a
bachelor's degree or higher.
PACE is a highly competitive program; not all candidates who apply will be
admitted to the program.
The program begins with an intensive spring and summer program of teacher
training after which the PACE "intern"
can be hired as a teacher-of-record in a Texas school. The program includes
formal coursework and seminar training at
WTAMU and culminates in Texas teacher certification for those candidates who
satisfy program and state certification requirements.
Through the PACE program, candidates may pursue certification at one of the following levels:
The PACE program, which spans 16-18 months, is organized into three phases:
Troops to Teachers
Texas Troops to
Teachers (TTT) is a federally funded program designed to assist retiring and
separating
military veterans to become teachers in their next careers. Since its beginning
in November 1995, the
Texas Troops to Teachers Office has counseled 15,500 veterans, advising them on
routes and programs
to achieve full teacher certification in Texas, and referring them to districts
for employment.
Texas leads the nation in the number of veterans who have become teachers, with
over 1650 hired since 1995.
Nationally, the Troops to Teachers Program is funded by the federal Department
of Education, but is managed by
the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) office in
Pensacola, Florida.
The DANTES office manages the registration of TTT participants, distributes all
funding, and maintains contact
with TTT participants who have received financial benefits.
At the state level, the Texas Troops to Teachers Office provides information and
guidance to participants on all aspects
of teacher certification. Texas TTT works with teacher certification programs
to assist our participants in selecting the
program that will work best for their certification process. We actively market
the TTT program to all university and
alternative certification programs, and provide funding to eligible participants
to help pay for their certification programs
and incentive bonuses for those who teach at high-needs schools. The Texas TTT
office works closely with military
installations to be sure that all eligible veterans who want to become teachers
are aware of the benefits available from TTT.
All service members and veterans, whether they qualify for funding from TTT or
not, are encouraged to contact the
Texas TTT office for information and assistance in becoming teachers in Texas.
